【摘要】:Leakageofglycol-baseantifreezeintothecrankcaseisseriousbecausethecoolanttendstointerferewiththelubricantanditsabilitytolubricate;italsopromotessludging.Ethyleneglycolpresentinthecoolantcanincreasevarnishdepositformationinthecrankcaseasaresultofglycoloxidationandtheinteractionbetweenglycolandlubricant.Furthermore,becauseglycolisahigherboilingmaterialthanwater,itwilltendtostaylongerinthecrankcaseoilthanwater.Lubricantdisplacement,sludging,anddepositformationallleadtoenginemalfunctionandpossibleseizure.Thesetestsaredesignedtodetectglycol-basecoolantcontaminationevenatlowlevelsbecauseearlydetectionenablescorrectivemeasurestobetakentopreventleakingcoolantfromaccumulatingandseriouslydamagingtheengine.Thesetestmethodsarealsosignificantbecausethereagentscanbepackagedasafieldkit,andtheprocedurecanbefollowedatthesitewherethereisaconcern.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthequalitativedeterminationofglycol-baseantifreezeinusedlubricatingoils(mineralbase)bytwoprocedures,oneusingreagentsintabletformandtheotherusinglaboratoryshelfreagents.Principallythetestmethodsdetectethyleneglycolbutwillalsodetectother1,2-glycolsthatmaybepresent.1.1.1Whenapositiveresultisobtainedandasampleoftheunusedoilisavailable,theunusedoilisalsotestedandusedasareference.Note18212;Sincetheinceptionofthistestmethod(1971),therehavebeenmanychangesinbasestocktechnologyandadditivetechnology.Therefore,whenavailable,thenew,unusedoil,orasampleofthesameusedoil,knowntonotcontainantifreeze,istestedasareference.1.2Thetabletprocedure(ProcedureA)issensitivetoabout100mg/kgandtheshelfreagentprocedure(ProcedureB)toabout300mg/kgofethyleneglycol.1.3Glycol-basedcoolantleaksintocrankcasesmaynotbedetectedormayresultinalowbiasusingthesetestmethodsiftheglycolhasdegradedorbeenthermallyorotherwiseoxidized.Theconditionsincrankcasesmaybesuchthatcontaminantglycolsareoxidizedordegradedtoadegreetowhichthecolorindicatorreactiondoesnotoccurorisbiasedenoughsoastonottriggerthecolorchange.Othertestmethodsforthedetectionofcoolantsorcoolantadditivesinlubricatingoilsshouldbeusediftheresultsfromthesetestmethodsaloneareinconclusiveorquestionable.1.4Carbohydratessuchassugarsandsugar-containingsubstancesaresometimesusedforsabotagepurposes.Ifthepresenceofthesesubstancesissuspected,ProcedureAcontainsamodificationtoremovetheseinterferences.1.5Bothproceduresareadaptabletofieldkituse,andbriefdescriptionsforconvertingtofieldkitformaregiveninAnnexA1.Commercialfieldtestingkitsareavailable.,1.6Theresultsobtainedbythismethodarequalitativeexpressions.However,forthepreparationofreagentsandintheprocedures,acceptableSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
